My name is Chris Cordle from Muskegon, MI. I'm a longtime lurker and seldom post. Thought I'd share some news which is exciting...to me anyways. Starting Oct. 17, I will be spending my Tuesdays with Robert Sayers as an understudy learning to build the Cumpiano method. I will be diving in headfirst with a Grand Auditorium build out of redwood and claro walnut back & sides. I am also in the early stages of learning the art of inlay. I'll try to keep you all up to date on my progress and in the meantime I'll be here lurking and knowledge siphoning. |

Welcome, Chris. You might want to look into getting involved with the Michigan Guild of Luthiers. There's a separate section you can read to get up to speed. |
You might want to look into getting involved with the Michigan Guild of Luthiers.
JJ, he signed up some time ago, just hasn't been posting. Hey Chris! Good to hear from you, and good luck on your new guitar. I should mention that Chris will know if it sounds right when he's done, because he's also a fine singer/songwriter/guitarist based here in the West Michigan area. He probably could extend his fame if he chose to, but now he's building guitars and there's no escape.......Muwaaaaaahaaahaaa!!! ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'll make sure and post pics and updates as things progress. Hesh, is that a fine looking redwood in your avatar? I have quite the fondness for redwood. Carlton, thanks for the kind words. SteveS, I figured I might see you here. I've been watching your SJ Koa closely. Excellent work my friend. Remember the "S" logo I came up with? I really liked that logo but do you think I could come up with something for myself? |

Welcome Chris... Nothing wrong with lurking ![]() ![]() You are going to love the sound of the combination of Redwood and Claro Walnut...It would be great for fingerstyle and the "woody" look of that combo will be very cool... One suggestion... take alot of notes of details and dimensions for everything as you will be able to refer back to it to compare future guitars...over time it will help you to figure out what sizes, shapes and such make a difference in the sound you are going for... Alan Carruth, another OLF'er was the one that I learned that from when he spoke at the ASIA symposium in 2003. He keeps notes on all of his guitars and since adopting that practice it has helped to keep track of things. I used to note certain things but would forget as many small details as I would remember... |

I'm shocked that I did not tell you already. I'm sorry, how rude of me. Yes, of course you could do your own logo. You have the talent. I can't wait to see your guitar. It is going to be great. |

Welcome Chris, Looking forward to some updates. Now just make sure that you take a note book with you on Tuesdays, we would not want you to forget any of those light bulb moments you should be sharing with us at the OLF. Cheers Kim |
